Day 6. Winton to Hughenden

Today we got packed up early to go to Lark Quarry. This is where the dinosaur stampede was.
We had breakfast there then went on a small walk.

This was our view for breakfast.

if you squint your eyes you can see buildings of a Cattle Station in the background.

Lark Quarry

you can see the smaller footprints

In this picture you can see all of the prints. It looks better when you are there. There is some larger prints to the left of the picture.
In the middle they have left an island untouched to preserve them. Hopefully the big shed they are in will protect them for a very long time. It is made out of Rammed Earth that was excavated on site, this helps keep the temperature at one level.

At the bottom of this you can see one of the larger prints.

After we left Lark Quarry we had lunch in Winton and headed North to Hughenden. When we got there we drove around town to see what was there then went to set up for a couple of nights.

Day 5 Winton Part 2

After looking at the trucks and machinery in the big shed and outside, we went to the Music Fence.
The Music Fence is made out of bits of old disused parts.

As you can see there are many different musical instruments to be played. And lots of different sounds.
Me rockin' the drums!!

After the Musical Fence we went to the Caravan Park to set up the tent and relax after a busy day.

Day 5 Winton Part 1

We got to Winton in time for breakfast at the Coolibah Cafe. This was next to the Matilda Centre.
At the Matilda Centre it told the story of the song 'Waltzing Matilda'.

Out the front of the Waltzing Matilda Centre.
The words of the song are behind me.

A bit of fun inside!

There was a lot to see again inside. There was a Artist Gallery with some very good paintings. Some of the paintings you could not see properly until you were standing back. Then they look better. A lot of landscapes.

In one room was a display of a lot of bits from the early settlers.
This was one display of about 5 of cameras.

Lots of old trucks to see.

a very old International.

After spending a couple of hours looking at the Waltzing Matilda Centre we went to
Winton's Diamantina Heritage Truck and Machinery Museum Inc.
This more lots of old trucks.

Old Fire Truck.

This truck belonged to "Toots".
Toots was the first female truck driver in Queensland.
Mum said Toots was a little rough around the edges and could give the men a run for their money!
Toots passed away in a truck accident in Northern Queensland and the truck has been restored in her memory.

Day 4 Longreach Part 2

After having lunch at the QANTAS museum we went to the Stockman's Hall of Fame.
Inside was a lot of information about the history of Australia with the people working on the land.

There was a lot of reading to do inside, most of it was interesting but could have been more interactive things to do.

This is me testing to be a RFDS pilot!
This picture looks much better when you are there.

After leaving the Hall of Fame we went back to the tent and I went for a swim, It was very cold but I still swam!

Day 4 Longreach Part 1

Today I went to the QANTAS Museum in Longreach to see how QANTAS airlines started. In the museum it had a flight simulator that you can try and see how good you are at flying a 1927 aeroplane around an area. It had a little passenger cabin which was an example of the first ever QANTAS passenger plane, the others were either a 1 person plane (just pilot) or an air mail plane. There was a big Rolls Royce engine that was really big.
The Rolls Royce engine and me.

After Mum and I had a look in the museum we went on a tour that told us about the Boeing 707 and Boeing 747 planes. the tour guide told us a lot of information about the 747 first. After about an hour later we got to go into the plane where the tour guide told us about the history of the 747. (The tour guide told the group how about 3 three trailered road trains came with some red paint just to paint the tail end of the plane).
Boeing 707

Me next to the 747

The 747 from the side

Then after looking in the aircraft we went over to the 707 were the plane was left to rot some-where in England, this was the first plane 707 that QANTAS ever owned, the QANTAS museum council took notice  of the plane sitting there and tried to get it back which took three years to do. When they got the plane to Florida, John Travolta came with his 707 to see the plane on display. The one at the museum now was the first ever 707 and John Travolta's is the last, number 13. Mum and I had a look inside the 707 and we both thought that it was more luxurious than the planes are now. When the Jackson 5 toured in Australia that was the plane that he used.

The sunset at Longreach.

Day 3 Roma to Longreach

We left early again because the road is very busy with lots of workers.

What was going to take us 1hr and 45 minutes to get to Morven took 3 hours because of all the roadworks.
On the way we passed another road train, this one was old with old model trucks on the back, that was interesting.

We stopped at between Augethella and Tambo at a rest stop for morning tea.
Most of the rest stops have drop toilets. These are toilets that do not have water to flush. everything just drops to the bottom!!!

We stopped at Barcaldine for lunch in the park, then headed off to Longreach.
I could see the QANTAS 747 from a distance, I knew then we were close!! Yippee nearly there!!

Day 2 Dubbo to Roma

We woke up early and it was still raining.
There were a lot of trucks on the road again and a lot of dead kangaroos.
On the side of the road near Moree was a lot of cotton. The cotton came of the trucks transporting it.
It stopped raining at Moree and became very windy, this made the cotton on the side of the road blow around everywhere.

We stopped at Mungindi on the border of NSW and QLD.

This was interesting to find out!

You can see how the tree has grown around the plaque.

In Queensland, with the border behind me (river). It's sunny!!

We finally passed a road train. It had 3 trailers. As we got closer to Roma we saw more of these.

Day 1 Home to Dubbo

Day 1 was a long drive to Dubbo.
We stopped at Deniliquin to look at the Utes on display.

We left early in the morning and stopped at Jerilderie for a break. I was very tired.
We nearly could have turned our lights off because of the super moon, it was very bright.
It started to rain at Narribri. There were more and more trucks on the road.
We stopped at "The Dish" at Parkes for afternoon tea, it was still raining.

The Dish is a big satellite that helped Apollo 11 to get to the moon and help Apollo 13 get back to earth safely. While we were there the Dish was turning.

We then left to go to Dubbo for the night.
